The Gutter Grate base is covered with a fine stainless steel membrane *(patent-pending) that prevents any particle larger than 100 microns (1/2 a grain of sand) from entering your gutter.

Dozens of leaf guard screens utilize expanded metal, but they (like the majority of perforated plastic and metal products) tend to channel water right past the gutter and onto the ground due to water surface tension principals. Gutter Grate has an exclusive patent-pending "inseam" that forces water into your gutter.

In an effort to assist you with any questions you may have regarding ice dams on your gutters, we would like to share the following information. An ice dam is a ridge of ice that forms at the edge of the roof and prevents melting snow (water) from draining off the roof. In many instances, ice will form in your gutters, then begin to form beneath the edge of your roofing shingles, thus the potential cause of damage to walls, ceilings, insulation and other areas.

Hansons installs a gutter cover system called Gutter Grate. Our product is effective in keeping debris (leaves and twigs) out of the gutter. Gutter Grate is designed to ease the flow of water into your gutters. This design assists the prevention of ice forming beneath your shingles by not permitting the ice to back-up inside your gutters and under the roof edge. In fact our Gutter Grate protection system is designed for the icicles to form on top of the gutter cover rather than inside of the gutter. (This does not mean that there won't be some ice within your gutters, but is less likely). This will allow you to visually determine random ice cycle formation.

The object is to assist in the prevention of damage caused by ice damming. You should expect more than normal icing and icicles. To see ice and icicles form on your Gutter Grate system is normal. In fact, this is considered standard and expected for the Gutter Grate (and all other gutter cover systems).
